Bonnie's Story
Bonnie Storbakken is running to fill the South Central District Court seat currently held by Judge Thomas Schneider who is retiring at the end of his term. Storbakken is an attorney, mediator and Guardian Ad Litem experienced in guiding individuals through the legal process both as an attorney and as a qualified mediator. Storbakken has served as Counsel and Senior Advisor to Governor Jack Dalrymple, Commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Labor and Human Rights and is currently the Executive Secretary of the North Dakota Board of Medicine.
Bonnie was born in Grand Forks and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law. While in law school Storbakken clerked for Grand Forks States Attorney Peter Welte. Following graduation, she worked for the State Bar Association of North Dakota and as an attorney and mediator before serving in Governor Dalrymple’s administration.
Bonnie and her husband David Straley live in Bismarck and have three children. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Hope Manor, a sober living home for men and women in Bismarck.
The South Central District serves Burleigh, Emmons, Grant, McLean, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sheridan and Sioux counties. The 2020 primary election is scheduled for June 9, and the general election is scheduled for November 3.
